Working out in 2021
Honestly, the idea of working out can seem like this HUGE intimidating thing, I know. I can’t be the only person who experiences this! When I was in high school, I was more active, engaging in dance, soccer, volleyball etc. I didn’t even know what strength training was.
Then I got older, pursuing different things but became less active and got on the diet culture train. You know, the one that tells you to “lose weight by doing 2,000 hours of cardio a week and eat three almonds a day”. This is NOT sustainable and frankly not a whole lot of fun! I want a regimen that I enjoy and see results from.

First step was going to the gym. If you’re anything like me, it can be daunting to even step in the building. I thought everyone would be looking at me and judging my lack of experience etc. Someone once shared with me that the people who are in the gym are concerned with their OWN workout, rather than judging you. So there you go. Show up, but do it for you! Bring a friend if it makes it less intimidating but showing up is the first step.
Overview of a gym. In general, there is usually a cardio section, a free weights (dumbbells) section, usually a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) area and the weight/cable machines.
Tip: I like to go walk on the treadmill just while I figure out where everything is. This enables me to warm up and get a lay of the land.
